About me

  • I was born and live in the north-east of England.
  • I’m a child of the seventies.
  • I have an MA in American Studies
  • I’m a film-junkie. I couldn’t possibly name my all-time favourite film, but I love old classics and foreign language films.
  • Listening to music and going to gigs and festivals is my passion.
  • I was painfully shy as a child and used to hide behind the sofa when people came to visit and when Doctor Who was on.
  • Imperial Stormtroopers from Star Wars still give me the willies.
  • My first ever gig was Frankie Goes To Hollywood at the Hammersmith Odeon on 1 April, 1985.
  • My favourite gig was The Chemical Brothers at Glastonbury.
  • I seem to have an irrational need to place the tins in my cupboards with their labels facing outwards and to perfectly align my car between the white lines when I'm parking.
  • I love stationery and could happily spend an hour gazing at notebooks in Paperchase (other stationers are available).
  • I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to spelling. I don't like it when ‘your’ is used when it should be ‘you're’, or when an apostrophe is used incorrectly.
  • I enjoy walking and the great outdoors, though I get lost more than I should due to poor map-reading skills and a shocking sense of direction.
  • My favourite programme as a child was The Magic Roundabout.
  • One of my favourite places in the world is Ireland and I lived in Dublin for a number of years.
  • I know a little bit of French, German, Spanish and Irish though not enough to make any sense.
  • I hate celery.
  • I once ate at Robert de Niro’s restaurant in Tribeca, New York. It’s probably still one of the most expensive meals I’ve ever eaten.
  • Visiting art galleries is one of my favourite past-times and Mark Rothko and John Lavery are among my favourite artists.
  • I like to challenge conventional thinking and worry I may have revolutionary tendencies.
  • I get nice compliments about my neat handwriting.
